$50 tent vs $600 tent

Trekker Tent 2 review

A couple of weeks ago, backpacking expert and outdoor adventurer Jessica “Dixie” Mills spotlighted the Trekker Tent 2 and compared it to the ZPacks Duplex, a similar ultralight trekking pole tent at more than 10 times the price. She started her YouTube video saying that she was curious how well an inexpensive, light-weight tent (under 3 lbs) would compare with a top-of-the-line model. After a brief introduction of the ZPacks, she followed with a more thorough review of the Trekker Tent 2. Although the Trekker Tent 2 doesn’t have the vestibule that Dixie liked on the Duplex, it passed her test for ease of setup, overall weight, interior roominess and compact size. After sleeping through a night of light rain, she was happy with how the Trekker Tent performed but didn’t stop there: she just had to give it the hose test! Of course, it passed that test, too, and we’re happy with how well our tent compares with the Duplex. But, don’t take our word for it, check out her video and subscribe to her Homemade Wanderlust page for more high-quality videos about backpacking, thru-hiking, and just plain enjoying life!

  1. Dixie brought my attention to RCP. Now I have Trekker 2.2, 2V, 1V, backpack, and sleeping bag. Been very happy with everything, especially as a single dad with a tight budget.

  2. Watched Dixie’s video. Thought I’d give it a try. Man was I pleased. Easy setup, thoughtful design and light. Love it. Great tent.

  3. I have your one person tracking poll teepee shaped tent. I saw that video and I kind of wish she tried the one I have. Because I feel it’s a lot like what she’s is used to and has plenty of ventilation the condensation drips off onto the ground and not into the tent except for at the foot and head. And I found at your suggestion of spraying waterproofing inside and out helped a lot with that plus it has the vestibule but she wished she had an is 48 in tall and Center. In short I really love this tent.

  4. I to follow Dixie on YouTube. As a very satisfied River Country products tent owner, I was excited to watch her review and was completely unsurprised when she determined it to be a good tent for the price point. I love my River Country backpacking tent and can’t wait to use it here soon though I really wish I had taken it out this winter.

  5. Yes, I saw the video review. It confirmed for me that a purchase of the Trekker Tent 2.2 would be a good idea. I made the purchase and after using it, I can say that I couldn’t be more pleased with the purchase.
